Announcing Vintage Therapy
Mental Health Made Simple
One sleepless night, I stumbled across some *new* ideas in a dusty old psychology book from 1946. Mental health was just becoming a conversation then. The world was rebuilding after the trauma of WWII while also learning how to integrate new technologies. Gadgets that made life both easier and harder. Relatable.
What struck me most was their approach. Instead of talking about mental health (depression, anxiety, burnout), they were teaching mental hygiene, like brushing your teeth or exercising daily. They were studying how ordinary people could care for their minds in order to prevent breakdowns.
I expected outdated advice. Instead, I found timeless wisdom. 7 Principles of Mental Hygiene that showed up again and again. As I read, I began seeing my own struggles through their lens. Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with me?” I began asking, “What do I need?” and the answer almost always fit one of these principles.
Vintage Therapy is my way of passing this wisdom on to you. The book came from my grandfather’s book shelf, and I’ve translated its ideas into the simplest, most practical language for our time. When life feels overwhelming, you’ll see it’s not a personal flaw but what happens to humans when our basic needs aren’t met.
In Vintage Therapy: Practical Wisdom for Modern Times, you’ll find:
A short excerpt from Practical Psychology (1946) to set the stage.
Stories and examples from my own life and work.
Reflection questions to help you integrate each principle into your daily rhythm.
Here are the seven principles you’ll explore with me:
Love your limits
Spend wisely
Adapt or die
Keep a routine
Everything in moderation
We need each other
Enjoy your work

Podcast Companion
Alongside the book, I’ll be releasing podcast episodes where I:
Read each chapter aloud
Walk with you through the reflection questions and practices
It’s part audiobook, part conversation. Vintage Therapy is an invitation to enter into the wisdom of the past and apply it to the complications of our present.
If you are like me and you want a book you can hold, no screens required, Vintage Therapy will be available to order from Amazon in September. I will keep you posted.
Thank you for being part of this community. I can’t wait to share in this fun project with you.
Warmly,
Jenny
